For John Armleder, a disco ball is “a combination of pure shapes and movement, a sphere covered by a multitude of square elements, an object whose rotations create a shifting environment with its reflections.”
This is how our iconic espresso coffee cup got a disco ball makeover. John Armleder’s series of espresso cups for the illy Art Collection is called “Tastes”, and recreates the installation’s same reflections of light and effect. He says, “A cup is a cup. On the other hand, it may reflect what it contains. And, he adds: “it can represent time”.”
